In League with Literature visits Wigan & Leigh
Mark the date in your diary – Wednesday May 4th. For it is then that Scratching Shed’s rugby league roadshow, In League with Literature, will make its first appearance of 2011.
In previous years we have appeared east of the Pennines, this time we head west to the Wigan and Leigh Words Together Literary Festival. In the words of the brochure – a copy of which can be downloaded here – “Some say Rugby League and literature don’t go together. Publishers of all things Northern culture, Scratching Shed, host an evening featuring five well-known rugby league writers and broadcasters who disagree. Come and join Phil Caplan (No White Flag), Professor Tony Collins (1895 and All That, Rugby’s Great Split), Dave Hadfield (Up and Over, Down and Under), Tony Hannan (Being Eddie Waring, Seasons in the Sun), and BBC rugby league commentator Ray French (Ray French and… Rugby) for an evening of good-humoured insight, chat and sporting words.” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves!
The event will be held at Ashton Library, Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield. To book your ticket telephone 01942 727119. Price £5 per ticket. Hope to see you there.
